Morgan II receives invitation to NFL Scouting Combine

SAN ANTONIO — Former UTSA All-America tight end David Morgan II has received an invitation to participate in next month's National Football League (NFL) Scouting Combine. The annual pre-draft event is scheduled for Feb. 23-29 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

"I was excited to get the invitation last night and it's truly a blessing," Morgan II said. "I'm looking forward to being a part of this great event as a representative of UTSA. I've been working very hard this offseason and am looking forward to taking another step toward reaching my goal of playing at the next level."

More than 300 of the very best college football players have been invited to participate in this year's event. Top executives, coaching staffs, player personnel departments and medical personnel from all 32 NFL teams will be on hand to evaluate the nation’s top players eligible for the upcoming NFL Draft. The four-day job interview is a vital step, as the athletes try to achieve their dreams of playing at the next level.

It marks the second postseason event that Morgan II has participated in, as he was selected to play in last Saturday's East-West Shrine Game in St. Petersburg, Fla. However, the 6-foot-4, 260-pounder did not play due to injury.

The Marble Falls native became the Roadrunners' first-ever All-American this past season when he was named to USA Today's second unit. Also a second-team All-Conference USA selection last fall, he recorded 45 receptions for 566 yards (12.6 avg.) and a program single-season record five touchdowns while grading out as one of the top blocking tight ends in the country. Morgan II also was named to the midseason John Mackey Award (nation's top tight end) watch list.

He set a then-school mark with nine catches in the season opener at then-No. 22 Arizona (Sept. 3) and matched that total five games later against Louisiana Tech (Oct. 10). His 109 yards against the Wildcats was UTSA’s first 100-yard receiving performance in three seasons and his two touchdown grabs against the Bulldogs matched the program’s single-game record. Morgan II earned honorable mention John Mackey Tight End of the Week accolades following both of those outings.
