NORMAN, Okla. — Utah State posted a 4-0 victory against the No. 66-ranked UTSA men’s tennis team in both teams’ final match of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend event on Sunday at the Wadley Indoor Pavilion.
The Aggies (2-3) took an early 1-0 lead by winning two doubles matches.
Jonas Maier and Jack Swindells registered a 6-2 victory against Jake Rother and Takeru Watanabe at No. 3, while Jaime Barajas and Samuel Serrano posted an equal score to beat Eric Buchalter and Joao Riquelme.
UTSA’s top duo of Fabian Brand and Diogo Casa was up by a 4-2 count before the doubles point was clinched.
Utah State took a 2-0 advantage when Luis Lopez swept Riquelme, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 6 singles.
The Aggies also posted straight-set wins on the second and third courts, as Maier downed Rother, 7-6 (12-10), 6-0, and Swindells defeated Christian Carrillo, 6-2, 6-3.
The Roadrunners (0-3) will open their home slate against Louisiana-Lafayette (2-1) at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29, at the UTSA Tennis Center.
