NORMAN, Okla. — No. 66 UTSA dropped its first-round match in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, 4-0, to 64th-ranked Troy on Saturday at the Gregg Wadley Indoor Pavilion.
The Trojans (1-3) grabbed the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead into singles.
Andy Lau and Giovani Samaha beat Jake Rother and Takeru Watanabe at No. 2, 6-4, but the Roadrunners’ duo of Fabian Brand and Diogo Casa countered with a 6-4 triumph at the top spot. Troy clinched the point when Mustapha Belcora and Pablo Moreno outlasted Eric Buchalter and Mark Ginting, 7-5, at No. 3.
Moreno swept Ginting, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5 singles and Samaha defeated Christian Carrillo, 6-3, 6-3, at the third position to take a 3-0 lead. Troy secured the match with a 6-2, 6-1 decision by Andre Baldo against Watanabe at No. 6.
The Roadrunners (0-2) will face Utah State at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
