AUSTIN — Texas opened the game on a 21-4 run and never looked back in a 116-50 victory against UTSA on Tuesday night at the Frank Erwin Center.
The contest marked the last for UTSA in a stretch where it played eight of its first nine games away from the Convocation Center.
George Matthews led the Roadrunners (1-8) with a career-high 12 points, while Ryan Bowie added 10 and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Cameron Ridley paced the Longhorns (5-3) with 19 points and nine boards and Tevin Mack chipped in 17 points. Texas shot 64.7 percent from the field and scored 56 points in the paint.
The Longhorns scored the first 10 points of the game before a runner in the lane by Gino Littles put UTSA on the scoreboard. However, Texas hit its next four shots, three of which came from behind the arc, to cap the game-opening run.
Matthews and A.J. Cockrell combined for eight points off the bench in the opening half, but the Longhrons used their press to force 13 turnovers and hold a 56-17 lead at intermission.
Matthews scored eight of his career-high 12 points after halftime, but the Roadrunners were unable to cut into the deficit and Texas cruised to the 66-point triumph.
UTSA will return home on Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (6-2). The game will be broadcast on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel (323) across the state of Texas.
