Eight Roadrunners land on All-Conference USA teams

IRVING — Led by second-team selections David Morgan II, Jason Neill and Bennett Okotcha, UTSA saw eight players land on the All-Conference USA teams, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Morgan II, who was tabbed a second-team All-American by USA Today earlier on Tuesday, started all 12 games this past season. The senior team captain recorded 45 receptions for 566 yards (12.6 avg.) and a UTSA single-season record five touchdowns while grading out as one of the top blocking tight ends in the country. He currently ranks eighth among the nation's tight ends in receptions and 10th in receiving yards. Morgan II set a then-school mark with nine catches in the season opener at then-No. 22 Arizona (Sept. 3) and matched that total five games later against Louisiana Tech (Oct. 10) en route to honorable mention John Mackey Tight End of the Week accolades following both outings. His 109 yards against the Wildcats was UTSA’s first 100-yard receiving performance in three seasons and his two touchdown grabs against the Bulldogs matched the program’s single-game record. A member of this year's midseason Mackey Award watch list, the Marble Falls native was a 2014 honorable mention all-conference selection.

Neill, who was a preseason all-league selection, started all 12 games at defensive end during his final year as a Roadrunner and he led UTSA’s linemen with 56 tackles (36 solos/20 assists) while setting program single-season records with 11 TFLs and 8.5 sacks (2nd C-USA). The Flower Mound native registered two sacks in three of his last five outings and racked up a total of seven during that span. Neill set career highs with nine tackles, four TFLs and two sacks at North Texas (Oct. 31) and added nine stops and a pair of sacks against Rice (Nov. 21) three weeks later. He also had two sacks at Charlotte (Nov. 14). Neill finished his career with UTSA all-time records of 23.5 TFLs and 14 sacks.

Okotcha, who also was a preseason all-conference pick, appeared in all 12 contests at cornerback, starting 11. His league-leading four interceptions tied a UTSA single-season record and his 14 pass breakups rank second on the school’s single-season list. The Coppell native also racked up 47 tackles (39 solos/8 assists), one fumble recovery and a forced fumble during his final campaign in the Alamo City. All four of his picks came in the last six games and he had five stops and a pair of interceptions at Southern Miss (Oct. 17).

Meanwhile, five Roadrunners — Marcus Davenport (So., DE), Drew Douglas (Sr., LB), Michael Egwuagu (Jr., S), Kerry Thomas Jr. (So., WR) and Jarveon Williams (Jr., RB) — were honorable mention selections.
