Morgan II tabbed second-team All-American by USA Today on Tuesday

McLEAN, Va. — David Morgan II was tabbed a second-team All-American by USA Today, the publication announced on Tuesday, and he became the first All-American in UTSA's five-year history.

Morgan II, a senior team captain who started all 12 games this past season, recorded 45 receptions for 566 yards (12.6 avg.) and a UTSA single-season record five touchdowns while grading out as one of the top blocking tight ends in the country. He currently ranks eighth among the nation's tight ends in receptions and 10th in receiving yards.

The Marble Falls native set a then-school mark with nine catches in the season opener at then-No. 22 Arizona (Sept. 3) and matched that total five games later against Louisiana Tech (Oct. 10) en route to honorable mention John Mackey Tight End of the Week accolades following both outings. His 109 yards against the Wildcats was UTSA’s first 100-yard receiving performance in three seasons and his two touchdown grabs against the Bulldogs matched the program’s single-game record. A member of this year's midseason Mackey Award watch list, he was a 2014 honorable mention All-Conference USA selection.

"This is an outstanding honor, one that would not have been possible without my coaches and teammates," Morgan II said. "To become the first All-American in UTSA history is something that is very humbling. I am proud that I was able leave a mark during my final season as a Roadrunner."

"I am very excited that David was recognized for his outstanding senior season," head coach Larry Coker said. "He worked extremely hard to become one of the top tight ends in the country and today's announcement is a reward for all that hard work. David already had left a legacy in this program and today just confirms that he is one of the best players in school history."
