UTSA downs Louisiana Tech in straight sets on Friday night

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA made quick work of its opponent on Friday night, as the Roadrunners swept Louisiana Tech by scores of 25-16, 25-23 and 25-18 at the Convocation Center.

Friday’s win marks the sixth straight 20-plus win season for head volleyball coach Laura Neugebauer-Groff as the Roadrunners improved to 20-7 overall and 11-2 in Conference USA.

Dajana Boskovic led the group offensively with 14 kills and added five digs and four blocks.

Amanda Gonzales snapped her streak of 40-plus assists as she totaled 22 on the night and was one dig shy of a double-double with nine. Meanwhile, Annie Kunes registered 10 of the team’s 44 digs.

The Roadrunners were off to a strong start as they won the opening set 25-16 and held Louisiana Tech to a .091 hitting percentage. UTSA led from the get-go and led by as many as 13 at the 22-9 mark on a block from Boskovic and Kylie Schott.

Louisiana Tech (10-17, 3-10 C-USA) turned the tables around in the following frame and led through halfway of the set. Seven ties later and UTSA used a 3-0 run to pull away from the Lady Techsters. LA Tech managed to make it a one-point game twice but Marijeta Runjic secured the win with her 10th kill of the match. Runjic finished the night with 12 kills and three blocks.

The Roadrunners had a hot start to the third set as they went 4-0 before Louisiana Tech was able to score. The Lady Techsters got within two midway through the frame at 14-12 but UTSA used a 4-0 to extend its lead and take the win for the sweep.

Helena Gunnarsdottir led Louisiana Tech with nine kills, six digs and a pair of blocks.

UTSA will return to the Convocation Center for its final regular season home match of the year against UAB on Sunday. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
