MIAMI, Fla. — The UTSA volleyball program captured its 600th all-time victory with a four-set decision (25-17, 25-27, 25-9, 25-17) at FIU on Sunday afternoon.
UTSA (18-7, 9-2 C-USA) entered the 2015 campaign with a 582-487 program record and reached yet another milestone Sunday. It marks the third milestone the Roadrunners have reached this year with head coach Laura Neugebauer-Groff notching her 500th career win and Dajana Boskovic totaling 1,000 career kills.
Boskovic paced the Roadrunners with 21 kills, 11 digs and four blocks. Marijeta Runjic added 15 winners and three blocks.
Amanda Gonzales had yet another 40-plus assist match with 44 and picked up another double-double adding 19 digs. Annie Kunes had a team-high 22 digs with eight assists and one ace.
UTSA opened up its Sunday matinee against FIU (13-10, 7-5 C-USA) with a 25-17 win but was unable to win two straight sets with a 27-25 loss in the second frame.
The Roadrunners returned from the intermission and downed the Panthers with a 25-9 win. UTSA held FIU to a -.241 hitting percentage as the Panthers recorded 10 miscues in the frame. The nine points allowed was the third time this season that the Roadrunners have held opponents to that score total.
In the fourth set, the Roadrunners secured the win on a 25-17 decision. The frame tied six times before UTSA could gain complete control. The final tie came at the 9-all mark and a kill from Gonzales gave way to the Roadrunners’ lead.
UTSA will return to the friendly confines of the Convocation Center for its final three home matches of the regular season starting with a 6 p.m. contest against Rice on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
