COLLEGE STATION — Dusan Makevic finished as UTSA's top performer for the fifth time this season and the Roadrunners placed 14th at Friday's NCAA South Central Regional.
Makevic earned all-region honors with his 16th-place effort after covering the 10,000-meter Dale Watts Cross Country Course in 30:37.0 in the field of 163 runners. The junior from Sabac, Serbia, just missed a berth in next weekend's national meet by six spots.
"I'm not happy with my finish today, but I'm not disappointed either," Makevic said, "My running today wasn't good enough to qualify for nationals, however, I think I had a great season. Now it's the time to get some rest and switch gears for the track season. I'm looking forward to it."
John Von Dohlen (82nd/32:38.4), Saul Vasquez (87th/32:42.3), Mark Gonzalez (102nd/33:01.2) and Montgomery Bertschy (122nd/33:32.8) made up the remainder of UTSA's scoring contingent that accumulated 396 points.
Arkansas won the event for the third consecutive year with 51 points, while Texas was second with 69 and both squads advanced to next Saturday's national meet in Louisville, Ky. Houston's Brian Barraza took the individual crown in 30:07.3.
