COLLEGE STATION — Yulisa Abundis finished as UTSA's top performer for the second consecutive meet and the Roadrunners placed 15th at Friday's NCAA South Central Regional.
Abundis, a freshman from Aptos, Calif., covered the 6,000-meter Dale Watts Cross Country Course in 21:33.7 en route to 57th place in the field of 139 runners.
"It was a very competitive day," Abundis said. "We worked together as the great team that we are and I'm excited to see what we can accomplish in this upcoming track season."
Meanwhile Kerstin Sheehan clocked a 22:14.4, which was good for 81st, and Grace Kohler was three spots behind her teammate after crossing the line in 22:22.3. Charlette Janicek (93rd/22:38.4) and Emily Voss (117th/23:28.1) rounded out UTSA's scoring contingent.
Arkansas, led by individual champion Dominique Scott (19:35.3), won the team title with 40 points and Texas was second with 105, as both teams advanced to the NCAA Championships. SMU (132), Baylor (134) and Rice (145) rounded out the top five. The Roadrunners accounted for 395 points en route to their 15th-place team finish.
