SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will face its third ranked opponent this season on Friday when it battles No. 23 Western Kentucky for the top spot in the Conference USA standings. Both teams are undefeated in league action. The Roadrunners then will travel to UTEP to wrap up this weekend’s action.
UTSA makes its first trek to Bowling Green, Ky., with a 12-5 overall record and a 3-0 mark in league action. In the only other meeting with the Lady Hilltoppers, the Roadrunners were the victors in a 3-1 decision at the Convocation Center. Dajana Boskovic led three Roadrunners with 17 kills, while Dempsey Thornton and Marijeta Runjic added 16 and 11, respectively.
WKU (17-2, 4-0 C-USA) made its second appearance in the AVCA Top 25 Poll after going 2-0 last week and improving their win streak to 11 matches.
Setter Jessica Lucas was tabbed C-USA Setter of the Week after averaging 11.57 assists per set, for a total of 81 assists. She helped the team to a .346 attack percentage over the weekend and ranks 16th nationally with 713 total assists. Alyssa Cavanaugh paces the Lady Toppers offense with a 3.51 kills per set average to go along with 25 digs and 23 blocks. Noelle Langenkamp comes in a close second with 3.03 kills per stanza and she is hitting a .386 clip with a team-best 61 blocks.
UTEP (7-12, 1-4 C-USA) will host the Roadrunners in its only match of the week on Sunday. The Miners have lost their last two matches to Florida Atlantic and FIU.
Coline Coessens leads UTEP with 3.22 kills per set to go along with 205 digs and 46 blocks. As a team, the Miners are being outhit by their opponents, .202-.167.
