BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Dusan Makevic raced to a fourth-place performance and he led the UTSA men's cross country team to sixth place at Saturday's Conference USA Championships.
Makevic covered the 8,000-meter Spero Kereiakes Course in 24:46.8 for his fourth consecutive top-five performance of the fall. The junior from Sabac, Serbia, finished less than three seconds behind individual champion Anthony Rotich of UTEP, who won the event for the fourth consecutive year in 24:44.1.
"The race was very competitive," Makevic said. "It was tactical and started at a mild pace. Everything regarding top 10 positions was decided in the last half mile. Unfortunatley, I was not able to place better than fourth, but I was satisfied with my performance and happy that I received a first-team Conference USA award."
Alex Cruz (32nd/26:04.6), Saul Vasquez (37th/26:22.0), John Von Dohlen (41st/26:28.8), Mark Gonzalez (43rd/26:34.0) rounded out the Roadrunners' scoring contingent.
UTEP captured the team title with a near-perfect score of 19 points, while Middle Tennessee (58) and North Texas (87) rounded out the top three. UTSA accumulated 155 points en route to its sixth-place finish.
The Roadrunners will return to the course on Friday, Nov. 13, at the NCAA South Central Regional in College Station.
