BOCA RATON, Fla. — UTSA recovered from an opening set loss and won the following three frames to earn a 19-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-21 victory at Florida Atlantic on Friday night.
With the win, UTSA improves to 17-7 overall and 8-2 in Conference USA action. The win also brings the Roadrunners one win away from reaching the program’s 600 victory.
The Roadrunners continue to be a defensive threat as UTSA registered a season-high 16.5 blocks and is the 11th time this season that the team has reached double figures.
Offensively, Dajana Boskovic recorded a career-best 29 kills for a .407 hitting percentage, to go with 15 digs and five blocks.
Marijeta Runjic totaled 13 kills with five blocks while Amanda Gonzales notched her fifth straight match of 40-plus assists with 49.
Boskovic recorded six of her 29 kills in the first set but the Roadrunners suffered a 25-19 loss.
UTSA bounced back in the second set to even the match with a 25-21 win. The score bounced back-and-forth six times before the Roadrunners managed to gain control of the stanza. Three straight points gave UTSA a two-point advantage, 7-5, and the Roadrunners never looked back.
Florida Atlantic (15-9, 7-5 C-USA) made a late surge in the second to come within one at the 21-20 mark but the Roadrunners scored four of the last five points to close the set.
In the third set, UTSA held the Owls to a -.140 team hitting percentage while hitting a .207 clip. The Roadrunners recorded seven of its blocks in the third. UTSA led early on and pulled away on a 7-2 run to hold a 13-7 advantage over FAU.
The Roadrunners closed out the match with a 25-21 win as Boskovic registered 11 kills to lead the team in the fourth set. UTSA hit .309 in the final stanza and never let FAU take a lead despite four ties.
UTSA will head to FIU on Sunday for a noon matchup.
