BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Yulisa Abundis raced to a 26th-place performance and she led UTSA to eighth place at Saturday's Conference USA Championships.
Abundis, a freshman from Aptos, Calif., covered the 5,000-meter Spero Kereiakes Park trail in 18:41.1 and she finished as the Roadrunners' top performer for the first time this fall.
"Today was a really fun experience," Abundis said. "The weather was perfect and the competion was good. My teammates and I are looking forward to regionals."
Grace Kohler covered the course in 18:53.4 en route to 34th place, while Kerstin Sheehan was six spots back in 40th after clocking a time of 19:05.3. Lauren Haney (49th/19:22.8) and Charlette Janicek (65th/19:51.8) rounded out UTSA's scorers.
Rice, behind individual champion Cali Roper (17:22.6), captured the team title with 48 points, while Middle Tennessee (79) and meet host Western Kentucky (96) placed second and third, respectively. The Roadrunners accounted for 210 points on their way to their eight-place finish.
UTSA will return to the course on Friday, Nov. 13, at the NCAA South Central Regional in College Station.
