SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men’s basketball team hosted a free clinic to benefit the Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries at the Geneva School of Boerne Gym on Sunday afternoon.
About 75 boys from 2nd-5th grades participated in the event by donating canned goods to the Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries. For two hours, the boys went through drills and games with head coach Brooks Thompson and his coaching staff along with the entire UTSA men’s basketball team.
“We were very honored to host Sunday’s clinic,” Thompson said. “Not only was it great to be able to teach the game that we love to a very excited group, but to benefit a wonderful organization like the Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries while doing so made it very special.”
“We’re always happy to give back to the community,” sophomore point guard Gino Littles said. “You could tell that everyone was having fun and that it meant a lot to the kids. To be able to give back and make an impact on someone’s life through basketball was awesome.”
Participants also learned some UTSA cheers, the “birds up” hand sign and left the event with an Adidas basketball, UTSA water bottle and autographed posters. Many signed up for the Rowdy Runners Kids Club, which is an exclusive free club for children in 1st-8th grades who register.
The men’s basketball team plans on holding more clinics throughout the season.
