Roadrunners wrap up fall campaign at USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships

COLLEGE STATION — UTSA wrapped up its fall campaign this past weekend at the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships.

Jacobea Junger and Miriam Rosell Canudas both advanced to the second round of play following victories.

Junger defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Judit Vives in straight sets (6-1, 6-2), while Rosell Canudas downed Kerry Galhos, also from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, by identical scores of 6-3.

However, the pair both fell in the following round.

Houston's Despoina Vogasari got past Junger in two sets, 7-6, 6-2, and Baylor's Theresa Van Zyl rallied past Rosell Canudas, 2-6, 6-4, 10-7.

The Roadrunners' other competitor of the weekend was Meredith Hopson, who bounced back from her 6-4, 6-1 setback to Texas' Lana Groenvynck in the first round with a 7-5, 6-1 triumph against Abilene Christian's Ansley Boarman in the consolation bracket.

In doubles action, Junger and Rosell Canudas fell in the first round to Rice's Emily Smith and Solomiya Zinko by a count of 6-3.
