UTSA sweeps Charlotte on Wednesday night

SAN ANTONIO — Dajana Boskovic registered the 1,000th kill of her career and she helped lead UTSA to a sweep of Charlotte on Wednesday nightat the Convocation Center.

Boskovic registered a team-best .524 hitting percentage off her 12 kills in 21 attempts (one error) to lead a trio of Roadrunners in double digits. Kasey Kiefer also totaled a dozen winners and added 11 digs for her second double-double of the season. Meanwhile, Antonela Jularic had 10 with seven digs and a pair of blocks and freshman Amanda Gonzales had 41 assists and 10 digs.

UTSA (14-7, 5-2 C-USA) played like a completely different team that it did just three days ago.

The Roadrunners opened the match with a 25-19 win and a .467 hitting percentage. The set featured nine ties and a pair of lead changes before UTSA grabbed full control of the stanza.

The final tie came at the 16-all mark when a miscue by the Roadrunners gave the 49ers the point. UTSA bounced back with three straight points to lead 19-16 and forced Charlotte (5-14, 2-6 C-USA) to a timeout. UTSA scored six of the last nine points to close the set.

UTSA continued its hot streak in the second set as the Roadrunners won 25-19 again. UTSA registered six of its 10 aces in the second set and was one shy of matching the single-match record (3 sets) of 12 set back in 2001.

The team closed out the match on another 25-19 win as UTSA hit a .244 clip and held Charlotte to a .196 attack percentage. Charlotte gave the Roadrunners a run for their money as the score bounced back-and-forth before a bad set by the 49ers tied the score at 10 for UTSA.

A kill by Kylie Schott opened the way for a 4-0 run and the Roadrunners never looked back.

Sarah McDonald led Charlotte with 11 kills and seven digs, while Abreia Epps added seven winners.

UTSA will be back in action on Sunday when UTEP comes to town for a 1 p.m. matchup. Sunday will also be the Roadrunners annual Dig Pink match and all fans are encouraged to wear pink.
