SAN ANTONIO — For the second straight week, UTSA will break away from its usual Friday-Sunday Conference USA contests when the Roadrunners welcome Charlotte for a Wednesday night match. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
UTSA (14-7, 5-2 C-USA) faced just its second league loss on Sunday on a four-set loss to Marshall. Marijeta Runjic led the box score with 16 kills to go along with three blocks. Kasey Kiefer added a double-digit performance with 12 winners in addition to her six digs.
Dajana Boskovic continues to lead the charge as she’s averaging 4.02 kills per set (4th C-USA), along with 169 digs and 43 blocks. Boskovic leads the squad with nine double-doubles and has reached double digit kills 14 times this season.
As a team, the Roadrunners are hitting .253 (2nd C-USA) and holding their opponents to a .169 clip, which ranks 48th in the NCAA.
Defensively, UTSA ranks fourth in C-USA in digs and blocks. Annie Kunes is averaging a team-best 3.59 digs per set, while Kylie Schott and Megan Slan each add 1.05 blocks per set.
The last time UTSA and Charlotte squared off was in the first round of the 2014 C-USA Tournament in Hattiesburg, Miss. The top-seeded Roadrunners swept the 49ers by scores of 26-24, 25-16 and 28-26 to advance to the semifinals.
Charlotte heads to the Alamo City with a 5-14 overall record and 2-6 mark in C-USA play. The 49ers, who have lost six straight, are coming off a 3-0 loss to No. 22 Western Kentucky.
Sarah McDonald leads Charlotte’s box score by averaging 3.26 kills per set with 16 aces, 139 digs and 20 blocks. Setter Britney Leigh Held is averaging 9.81 assists per set and hitting a team-best .333 to go along with 14 aces, 196 digs and 45 blocks.
