AUSTIN — Julie Houston tied for 10th place to lead the UTSA women’s golf team to 12th at the Betsy Rawls Longhorns Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday at the University of Texas Golf Club (6,298 yards/par 72).
Houston finished in a seven-way tie for 10th at 2-over-par 218 in posting her first career top-10 finish. The freshman from Allen carded a 71-70—141 on Monday, which was tied for the individual lead, and rounded out the 54-hole tournament with a 77 on Tuesday. She registered a team-high nine birdies and the 2015 U.S. Women’s Amateur qualifier played the par fours at 2-under, third best in the field of 75 players.
Lara Weinstein was the next highest Roadrunner, finishing in a tie for 40th at 226. The junior transfer from Texas bounced back from an 83 in the opening round with a 73 on Monday afternoon and a team-low 71 in her final 18.
Aimee Ponte and Nikki Long tied for 50th (77-73-80—230) and 55th (78-77-78—233), respectively, while Brogan Townend rounded out the lineup in 62nd (78-77=79—234).
UTSA posted a 902 (304-293-305) to take 12th, just one shot behind Kansas State and five behind No. 23 Houston.
No. 8 Kent State captured the team title with a 5-under 859. No. 37 Texas Tech (867), 21st-ranked UNLV (873), Texas (875) and No. 22 New Mexico (882) rounded out the top five.
Gabby Barker of Texas Tech claimed individual medalist honors with a 5-under 211 (70-72-69).
The Roadrunners will host The Alamo Invitational on Sunday-Tuesday, Oct. 25-27, at Briggs Ranch Golf Club.
