HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Rebekah Kensing’s first collegiate goal knotted the score in the 84th minute, but Kierstin Bradley’s second goal of the night pushed Southern Miss to a 2-1 double-overtime victory on Friday evening at the USM Soccer Complex.
Katherine Tesno finished with a season-high 12 saves for the Roadrunners (1-12-1, 1-5 C-USA) and it was her third double-digit saves effort of the fall. Meanwhile, Kensing became the fourth freshman to come up with her first collegiate goal this season.
Bradley powered the Golden Eagles (4-9-3, 2-5 C-USA) with her third and fourth goals as Southern Miss snapped a three-game losing streak. Goalie Brittany Taylor had four saves and limited UTSA to just Kensing’s goal.
Bradley opened the scoring in the 24th minute after she deposited Mary Kate Smith’s corner kick in the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
That’s where the score stood until Kensing found the equalizer in the 84th minute. The New Braunfels native boomed a shot from 25 yards out that sailed over Taylor’s hands for the goal.
After a scoreless first overtime period, the contest went to a final 10-minute session. With just more than three minutes to play before a 1-1 tie, Bradley took a cross from Breann Hedin and beat Tesno for the game-winner.
The Roadrunners will look to bounce back in a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday at Louisiana Tech (9-7, 2-4 C-USA).
