Makevic finishes at top collegian at Saturday's Broncos Invtiational

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Dusan Makevic posted his second runner-up showing for the season but finished as the top collegian and he led the UTSA men's cross country team at Saturday's Broncos Invitational.  

Makevic covered the 8,000-meter Baylands Regional Park course in 23:39.5 for his third consecutive top-five performance this season. He finished less than a second behind Justin Marpole-Bird, who cross the finish line first in 23:38.6.

Meanwhile, Alex Cruz completed the course in 24:58.8 for a 56th-place finish and he was followed by Saul Vasquez, who placed 73rd in 26:16.7. Mark Gonzalez (98th/25:38.0), John Von Dohlen (104th/25:40.7) and Montgomery Bertschy (121st/26:01.3) rounded out the Roadrunners' scoring contingent in the field of 155 runners.  

UTSA's 233 points were good for 11th among the 13 Division schools. San Jose State captured the team title with 61 points, while Loyola Marymount (108) and California (114) rounded out the top three.

The Roadrunners will begin postseason competition in two weeks at the Conference USA Championships in Bowling Green, Ky.
