TULSA, Okla. — Tito Moreiras posted a pair of victories to lead the UTSA men’s tennis team’s contingent at the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships, which got underway last weekend at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Moreiras was one of five Roadrunners who began play in the Pre-Qualifying Singles round of 256 on Saturday. The junior from San Antonio downed Santiago Munoz of Arkansas, 6-4, 7-6 (4) in his first match. He then dispatched Steven Patrick of Winthrop, 6-0, 6-4, in the round of 128 on Sunday before being eliminated by Chi-Shan Jao of Tulane in a three-set decision, 6-3, 3-6, 6-0.
Diogo Casa joined Moreiras as a first-round winner when he took care of Nils Skajaa of San Francisco with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph on Saturday. The senior was ousted a day later when he dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision at the hands of David Fox of Denver.
Jake Rother bounced back from a 6-3, 6-1 setback to Chris Barrus of UCF in the round of 256 with a 6-2, 7-6 (3) consolation victory against Jason Proctor of Abilene Christian on Sunday.
The Roadrunners will continue their fall tournament slate in two weeks at the Ron Westbrooks Invitational in Beaumont. The three-day event is scheduled to begin on Friday, Oct. 16.
