SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will look to continue one its second-best start in school history this week when it welcomes Santa Clara for a 5:30 p.m. home match on Thursday.
The Roadrunners (7-1) are coming off one of the biggest accomplishments in program history following Monday's upset of No. 12 Oregon. It marked the first time UTSA had picked up a victory against a nationally-ranked opponent.
The Roadrunners’ potent offense, led by Dajana Boskovic, ranks in the top three in Conference USA and the top 50 in the NCAA. Boskovic ranks 14th in the nation in kills per set (4.68) and 15th in total kills (117).
As a team, UTSA is hitting a .249 clip and holding opponents to a .128 attack percentage, which is best for 21st in the NCAA. At the net, the Roadrunners have registered double-figure blocks in half the matches this season and rank 24th in the country in total blocks (66).
Santa Clara (4-2) heads to the Lone Star State off a sweep of Cal State Fullerton at last weekend's Lobos Classic.
Under the tutelage of head coach Jon Wallace, the Broncos have made 12 appearances at the NCAA Tournament with their last appearance coming one year ago.
Nikki Hess leads the Broncos offense with 4.50 kills per frame and is second on the team with 51 digs to go along with 11 blocks.
Santa Clara is outhitting its opponents .247-.137 and is averaging 16.0 digs and 2.63 blocks per set.
UTSA will follow up Thursday’s match with two matches on Friday at the Texas Classic. The Roadrunners will take on fourth-ranked Texas at 12:30 p.m. and Iona at 5 p.m.
