SAN ANTONIO – Off to its second-best start in program history, UTSA opens its home portion of the 2015 campaign on Monday night when it welcomes No. 11 Oregon to the Convocation Center for a 6 p.m. contest.
It will be the second time in school history the Roadrunners with face off with the Ducks (5-2), who downed UTSA in four sets back on Sept. 2, 2000.
The Roadrunners (6-1) head into Monday’s match following a second-place finish at this weekend's Delta Zeta Classic in San Marcos. After dropping the event opener to tournament host and I-35 rival Texas State, UTSA notched wins against Indiana and Texas Southern. The Birds’ win over the Hoosiers was the program's first-ever victory against a Big Ten school.
Dajana Boskovic paces the squad with 4.57 kills per set (96) and the All-American also has 54 digs. Both Boskovic and Marijeta Runjicm, who is averaging 2.70 winners a stanza, were named to the Delta Zeta Classic All-Tournament Team.
As a team, the Roadrunners are outhitting their opponent .267-.125 and that difference is aided by Jessica Waldrip’s 9.96 assists per frame (229).
Oregon heads to the Alamo City following consecutive lossesto Florida and Nebraska, who both were ranked fourth in the nation in last week's American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 poll.
Martenne Bettendorf leads the Ducks with 3.16 kills per set and she also has 33 digs and 14 blocks. Meanwhile, Lindsey Vander Weide follows closely behind with 2.92 winners per frame (73) and she is hitting a .300 clip to go along with 18 blocks.
