SAN MARCOS — UTSA came out firing on Saturday afternoon and the Roadrunners downed Texas Southern in straight sets (25-12, 25-14, 25-13) on the final day of the Delta Zeta Classic.
UTSA (6-1), which finished the three-day event with a pair of victories, saw Dajana Boskovic and Marijeta Runjic named to the all-tournament team.
For the second time in as many days, the Roadrunners held their opponent to a sub-.100 hitting percentage, as Texas Southern (1-4) was held to a .013 clip.
Runjic paced the club with 14 kills and added two blocks. Meanwhile, Megan Slan also reached double figures with 10 winners and hit a team-high .833 (10-0-12) with three blocks.
UTSA made quick work of the Lady Tigers in winning the opening set, 25-12. The Roadrunners hit .480 in the opening stanza and held Texas Southern to a .036 attack percentage. Runjic led the corps with four kills.
UTSA held their largest lead of the second frame at the 16-3 mark on a kill from Runjic. The Lady Tigers attempted to chip into the lead late in the frame but were unable to do so and the Roadrunners took a commanding 2-0 advantage into intermission.
UTSA continued firing on all cylinders in the third set and held Texas Southern to just four points through much of the set. A serving error by the Roadrunners shifted momentum and the Lady Tigers managed to rack up five points to cut the lead in half, 20-10. However, UTSA held on and won the set on a defensive miscue by Texas Southern.
UTSA will open its home schedule at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 7, when it hosts No. 11 Oregon (5-1).
