COLLEGE STATION — Dusan Makevic placed second in his first cross country race since the 2013 season and that performance led the UTSA men at Friday's Aggies Opener.
Makevic, a junior from Sabac, Serbia, covered the Dale Watts Cross Country Course 6,000-meter loop in 18:02.5 and he finished just 3.3 seconds behind individual winner Cameron Villarreal of Texas A&M (17:59.2).
Mark Gonzalez (19:00.1), Saul Vasquez (19:01.1) and Montgomery Bertschy (19:04.8) finished 18th through 20th place, respectively, and Alex Cruz rounded out the the Roadrunners' scoring contingent with his 23rd-place effort (19:08) in the field of 37 runners.
Meet host Texas A&M won the team title with 24 points, while Lamar (46) and UTSA (60) rounded out the top three.
The Roadrunners will return to action in three weeks at the Islanders Splash in Corpus Christi. The meet is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 25.
