CORPUS CHRISTI — Alex Cruz led three Roadrunners that finished in the top 10 and UTSA placed in a second-place tie with meet host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Friday's Islanders Splash.
Cruz raced to a fourth-place finish after covering the 7,200-meter Momentum Campus loop in 24.28.2.
Other Roadrunners in the top 10 included Mark Gonzalez (24:42.7) and Saul Vasquez (24:48.7), who placed sixth and eighth, respectively.
Montgomery Bertschy just missed the top 10 with his 11th-place effort (24:59.6) and John Von Dohlen rounded out the team's scorers after finishing 13th (25:12.8).
UTSA's 42 points were good for second in the six-team field of Division I squads and the Roadrunners won the tiebreaker with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 3-2. Sam Houston State captured the team title with 36 points.
UTSA will return to action next Friday, Oct. 2, at the Longhorns Invitational in Austin.
