Former Roadrunner joins baseball coaching staff

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA head baseball coach Jason Marshall announced Thursday the addition of former Roadrunner Rodney Garza as volunteer assistant coach for the upcoming season. His appointment is effective immediately.

"We are excited to have Rodney back in the program at UTSA," Marshall said. "He played a significant role for us in our 2013 WAC Championship season and was undoubtedly a player that could lead not only with his actions but his words. I have no doubt Coach Garza will be an asset for UTSA baseball once again."

Garza, a native of Magnolia, was a two-year letterwinner for the Roadrunners after transferring from Paris Junior College. In his final season, he saw action in 37 games and registered 29 hits with 18 runs scored. Garza also was recognized on the league’s all-academic team.

The former Roadrunner graduated in 2013 and has been coaching at Davis High School in Houston's Aldine Independent School District.
