TCU downs UTSA on Sunday afternoon, 4-0

FORT WORTH — TCU scored three goals in the second half to break open a close game and claim a 4-0 win over visiting UTSA on Sunday afternoon at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.

The contest closed non-conference play for the Roadrunners (0-7-1), who will open Conference USA action at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, at FIU (4-5). Isabella Sanchez neared her season high with six saves, while Melissa Finley and Channing Machen registered two shots apiece.

Meanwhile, Allison Ganter paced the Horned Frogs (6-4) with a goal and an assist. In goal, Shannon Coffer and Courtney Hofer combined for the shutout, which was the squad’s third consecutive whitewashing.

The match was scoreless for much of the opening half until the 40th minute, when Brittany Little and Faith Carter found Audrey Brook for her first goal of the season. TCU wasted little time in doubling its lead after halftime as Michelle Prokof found the back of the net in the 48th minute with her team-leading seventh winner of the campaign.

Ganter and Eryn Spencer added goals in the 56th and 80th minute, respectively, to extend the advantage to 4-0.

UTSA was unable to get on the scoreboard in the final 10 minutes, as the Horned Frogs held off the Roadrunners for the shutout.
