#5 North Carolina blanks Roadrunners on Sunday, 5-0

AUSTIN — Summer Green and Alexa Newfield scored two goals apiece to lead No. 5 North Carolina past UTSA on Sunday morning at Mike A. Meyers Stadium.

Katherine Tesno made four saves for the Roadrunners, who fell to 0-3 and were shutout for the first time this season.

Meanwhile, Newfield pushed her team-leading goal total to five with a pair of strikes after Green logged her third and fourth goals of the fall to start the contest.

Green scored the first of her two goals in the fifth minute for the Tar Heels (4-0) when she raced past the defense following touches by Jessie Scarpa and Darcy McFarlane and found the back of the net for an early 1-0 lead.

Green added an unassisted goal in the 18th minute before another unassisted strike from Alexa Newfield in the 20th minute.

UTSA managed three shots in the first half, but was unable to crack the North Carolina defense, which has yet to give up a goal through the season’s first four matches.

Newfield pushed the advantage to 4-0 in the 57th minute with her second goal of the contest and Scarpa added a winner in the 72nd minute to provide the final margin.

UTSA will be back in action at 7 p.m. next Friday, Sept. 4, at No. 20 Texas Tech (2-1).
