UTSA to open 2015 campaign at this weekend's Bearkats Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will open its 33rd season this weekend when plays at the 27th annual Bearkats Invitational at Bernard G. Johnson Stadium.

The Roadrunners will play four matches. After starting the season with Montana State at 2 p.m. on Friday, the Roadrunners will take on Prairie View A&M at 4:30 p.m. UTSA then will take on tournament host Sam Houston State at 11:30 a.m. before closing out the weekend with former Conference USA foe Tulane.

The Roadrunners are coming off their second consecutive C-USA regular season title after sharing a piece of the crown with Western Kentucky. The Lady Toppers captured the tournament title to advance to the NCAA Tournament.

Reigning C-USA Coach of the Year Laura Neugebauer-Groff led her squad to its fifth consecutive 20-plus win season with a 20-9 overall record a year ago, including a league mark of 15-1.

Neugebauer-Groff returns five of her starting six, plus libero, for the upcoming season. Returning to the court is All-American and C-USA Setter of the Year Jessica Waldrip, along with fellow All-American and first team all-league selection Dajana Boskovic. The junior duo also represented UTSA on the C-USA Preseason Volleyball Team.

Boskovic paced the Roadrunners last season with 4.64 kills per set and totaled 71 blocks, while Waldrip finished second in the circuit with 10.94 assists per set, which ranked 36th in the NCAA.
