UTSA picked to finish second in Preseason Conference USA Poll

IRVING — UTSA was selected by the Conference USA coaches to finish second, while Dajana Boskovic and Jessica Waldrip were named to the league's preseason team, the league announced on Thursday.

Coming off their second consecutive regular season title, the Roadrunners were picked to finish second behind Western Kentucky, which shared the crown with UTSA last fall.

The Roadrunners posted their fifth consecutive 20-plus win season with a 20-9 overall record and went 15-1 in the circuit. UTSA wrapped up the season with Waldrip being named C-USA Setter of the Year and head coach Laura Neugebauer-Groff being tabbed Coach of the Year.

Rice, North Texas, Florida Atlantic, Southern Miss, Marshall and Middle Tennessee were predicted to finish in the remaining top eight spots, while FIU, Charlotte, UTEP, UAB and Louisiana Tech were selected to finish in the bottom of the standings.

Boskovic and Waldrip make their second straight appearance on the Preseason C-USA Team.

Boskovic was a first-team all-conference selection one year ago after pacing the team with 4.64 kills (413) and 0.80 blocks per frame.

Meanwhile, Waldrip, also a first-team all-league honoree, averaged 10.94 assists per set (2nd C-USA) to go along with 24 service aces.

UTSA will open the 2015 campaign next month at the two-day Bearkats Invitational (Aug. 28-29).
