SAN ANTONIO — Head women’s basketball coach Lubomyr Lichonczak announced Wednesday the addition of Butler transfer Loryn Goodwin. Goodwin will sit out the 2015-16 season due to NCAA transfer rule.
Goodwin, a native of Cypress (Cy-Falls HS), joins the Roadrunners following a successful sophomore season at Butler. She was named honorable mention All-Big East after leading the Bulldogs in scoring with 15.6 points per game. She posted four double-doubles, including a pair of 26-point outings.
In her season debut, she netted 18 points and reached double figures 18 more times and scored at least 20 on seven occasions. Goodwin also saw action in 23 of the team’s 30 games, earning a spot in the starting lineup 21 times.
Prior to her one season at Butler, the 5-foot-9 guard played for North Texas when the Mean Green was a member of the Sun Belt Conference. Goodwin was named the league’s Freshman of the Year after averaging 13.1 points per night and she broke the program’s single-season record with a conference-leading 64 3-pointers in addition to ranking nationally among freshman with 83 steals.
“Loryn was looking for a program that was on its way up and I think it speaks very highly of our program that she chose UTSA,” Lichonczak said. “She was impressed with our transition to Conference USA and with the jump we made last year and felt it fit her goals in terms of pushing her to be better. To have a player of that caliber look at UTSA just speaks volumes of the work our players have done the last couple years.”
