Singletary agrees to terms with CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders

REGINA, Saskatchewan — Former UTSA standout defensive end Robert Singletary agreed to terms with Canadian Football League's Saskatchewan Roughriders, the organization announced on Wednesday.

Singletary is coming off a senior season that saw him earn second-team All-Conference USA accolades. The preseason Lombardi Award nominee saw action in all 12 games (11 starts) and paced UTSA’s defensive linemen with 69 tackles to go along with a league-leading four forced fumbles and team-high 3.5 sacks, while his 8.5 tackles for loss ranked second on the club. The Kingwood native was named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 13 after recording 10 stops, including a program-record 4.5 for loss (third-most by an FBS player last season), three sacks, a program-record two forced fumbles, one pass breakup and a quarterback hurry against FIU (Oct. 11). He was an honorable mention choice as a junior.

"I am blessed that the Roughriders have given me the opportunity to continue my career at the next level," Singletary said. "I am looking forward to getting up there and contributing this season."

The Kingwood native is the third former Roadrunner to ink a free agent pact with a professional team this spring, as Ashaad Mabry and Triston Wade joined the National Football League's New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks, respectively, after last month's NFL Draft.
