NEW YORK, N.Y. — UTSA battery mates Brock Hartson (Cleveland Indians/21st round) and John Bormann (Pittsburgh Pirates/24th round) were selected on the third and final day of the 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Wednesday.
Hartson posted a 3.54 ERA during his junior campaign and struck out a team-best 76 batters. The Pearland native logged 101.2 innings and tossed three complete games for the Roadrunners. He made 15 appearances, all starts, and went 6-4 on the year. Hartson was a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American in 2013.
Three rounds later, Bormann got his name called by the Pittsburgh Pirates as the 727th overall pick. This is the second time the senior catcher had his name called after being selected by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 19th round last year.
The Seguin native finished the year with a .273 batting average with 59 hits, 13 doubles, 44 runs, 33 RBIs and a team-high 18 hit by pitches. He caught 18 would-be base stealers and picked off five more to lead Conference USA.
