SAN ANTONIO — UTSA homered twice on Friday night en route to a 9-2 victory against Middle Tennessee at Roadrunner Field.
Jesse Baker homered for the 14th time this season and Ben Brookover hit the second of his career to highlight the win against the first-place Blue Raiders (28-21, 18-7 C-USA).
Brock Hartson (5-3) had another successful outing, as he worked 7.2 innings and allowed two runs on six hits. The right-hander stuck out eight and walked three batters.
UTSA (29-20, 14-11 C-USA) struck early with four runs in the opening stanza. Eight of the starting nine saw action in the inning.
The Roadrunners loaded the bases with one out and Baker scored on Geonte Jackson’s grounder. Matt Hilston then laced a ball through the right side to score a pair of runs as he scored the final run on Brookover’s bloop single.
In the following inning, Baker hit a solo shot to left to extended the lead to 5-0.
UTSA hit its second homer of the game when Brookover launched a two-run shot, his second of the spring.
Hartson's streak of 19 scoreless innings came to an end in the eighth when he allowed a two-run home run.
Jeremy Filipek was perfect over the final 1.1 innings.
The win snapped Middle Tennessee’s four-game winning streak.
Starter Johnathan Frebis was charged with the loss in his three innings of action. He allowed seven runs on nine hits.
Hilston led the Roadrunners offense by going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBIs, a double and one stolen base. Meanwhile, Baker finished the night 3-for-5 with two runs, a home run, an RBI and a double.
UTSA will close out its final home series of the year with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday. This year's senior class will be recognized between games.
