Roadrunners wrap up competition at NCAA Championships Preliminary Rounds on Saturday night

AUSTIN — UTSA's 1,600-meter quartet of Shantel Swift, Paige Patterson, Chelsea Taylor and Jennifer Arinze raced to its second-best performance of the spring, but that only was good for 19th place late Saturday night during the final day of competition at this weekend's NCAA Championships Preliminary Rounds.

The foursome passed the baton and circled the Mike A. Myers Stadium oval four times in 3:38.95, which was the third-fastest in program history, but only the top 12 finishers in the 24-team field advanced to the next round in Eugene, Ore.

The Roadrunners will be represented by Whitney Flannel in the high jump in two weeks at the NCAA Championships. The senior from West Columbia is scheduled to compete at 3:30 p.m. (CT) on Saturday, June 13, and she will be aiming to become the program's first All-American in eight years (Ryanne Dupree, heptathlon, 2007).
