Anderson wins high jump at Saturday's Longhorns Invitational

AUSTIN — Ty Anderson won the first high jump competition of his young career to lead the UTSA men's track & field team at Saturday's Longhorns Invitational.

The freshman from Luling cleared a career-best 6-10 ¾ (2.10m) to top the field of 13 high jumpers. It was a two-inch improvement over his previous personal record and he now ranks fourth in the Conference USA standings, just one inch behind leader Charlie Card-Childers of Rice. Branden Perry placed third behind his teammate with a jump of 6-8 ¾ (2.05m).

Those were the only two podium finishes for the Roadrunners at their final tune-up for this year's C-USA Outdoor Championships, but Barrett Brock also had a PR in the pole vault and his clearance of 16-2 (4.93m) moved him into second place on the league's leaderboard.

The C-USA Outdoor Championships will take place in two weeks. The three-day meet is scheduled to get underway on Thursday, May 14, in El Paso.
