AKRON, Ohio — Former UTSA standout Megan Low has signed a rookie contract with the Akron Racers of National Pro Fastpitch (NPF), the club announced on Thursday.
On April 1, Low became the first-ever Roadrunner taken in the NPF Draft when the Racers selected the Spring native with the 30th overall pick. The club also announced the signings of draft picks Griffin Joiner (Kentucky) and Shellie Robinson (USC Upstate).
“Securing these three draft picks was the focus of my attention the past 10 days,” Akron Racers General Manager Joey Arrietta said in a press release. “Griffin, Megan and Shellie represent the future of our program. They will see significant time in the lineup this season and I am confident they will be an integral part of the success of this year’s team.”
Low hit .342 with 51 hits, including a team-high 28 extra-base hits, 10 doubles, a pair of triples and 16 homers to go along with 40 RBIs this spring and she was named first-team All-Conference USA. She is just the second player in program history to earn first-team all-conference honors at least three times and she finished her career ranked among the school’s all-time leaders in walks (1st/116), extra-base hits (2nd/94), batting average (3rd/.359), RBIs (3rd/147), putouts (4th/1,160), doubles (4th/44) and home runs (4th/48).
The Racers open the 2015 season with a pair of road games May 30-31 at the Pennsylvania Rebellion.
