EL PASO — Lindsey Pew placed third in the pole vault on Saturday to lead UTSA's women's track & field team at this weekend's Conference USA Championships.
Pew cleared a season-best 12-4 ½ (3.77m) en route to her bronze medal. The senior from Mesa, Ariz., tied Western Kentucky's Morgan McIntyre for the second-best jump in the competition, but she placed third due to more misses. WKU's Ria Moellers won the event with her vault of 12-10 ¼ (3.92m).
Meanwhile, Emily Perez and Stephanie Wangui both advanced in the 800- and 1,500-meter preliminary heats. Other Roadrunners to move on to Sunday's finals included Jennifer Arinze (400m), Kaila James (400m hurdles), Venessa Onwuchekwa (400m hurdles) and Paige Patterson (400m).
UTSA's seven points through seven scored events has it in 12th place in the team standings. Western Kentucky leads the pack with 59 points, while UTEP (37) and Charlotte (33) round out the top three
Lauren Haney scored the Roadrunners' other point of the meet thus far with her eighth-place finish on Friday in the 10,000 meters. The junior from Spring Branch crossed the finish line in 43:18.37.
The four-day meet will conclude on Sunday.
