Roadrunners in fourth place after three scored events at Conference USA Championships

EL PASO — UTSA saw four athletes combine for 12 points in the hammer throw on Friday and the Roadrunners sit in fourth place after three scored events at this weekend's Conference USA Outdoor Championships.

Victor Perez led the parade of UTSA hammer throwers that scored points in the opening field event of the four-day meet with his third-place performance. The sophomore from San Antonio tossed the implement a career-long 194-10 (59.38m), which was a 12-and-a-half-foot improvement from his previous best. Andris Vistins (175-2/53.39m), Levi Jordan (PR 171-5/52.26m) and Jared Tyler (PR 170-1/51.84m) placed sixth through eighth, which gave the Roadrunners a dozen points in the first scored event of the postseason championship meet. Rice's Duncan Dickerson captured the gold medal with his winning toss of 204-1 (62.21m).

UTSA's other points of the day came from Adrian Riley, who finished fourth in the decathlon with 7,074 points. The freshman from Kingston, Jamaica, set personal bests in five of the 10 disciplines the past two days (100m/400m/1,500m/high jump/pole vault). Rice's Scott Filip won the multi-event compeition with his 7,632 points.

Rice leads the team standings with 33 points, while Western Kentucky (22) and meet host UTEP (19) round out the top three squads in front of the Rodrunners, who netted 17 on Friday.

The meet will continue on Saturday.
