Roadrunners conclude regular season with 10-1 victory at Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Friday night’s momentum shifted into Saturday's series finale at Charlotte and UTSA came away with a 10-1 victory at Hayes Stadium in its regular-season finale.

The bats were hot for the Roadrunners (32-23, 17-13 C-USA), as the team scored eight of their 10 runs through the first three innings.

In the second frame, eight of the nine in the starting lineup saw action, as the four runs were scored on four consecutive hits.

Jesse Baker and Kevin Markham scored twice early in the game, as the duo scored both of UTSA's runs in the first and they scored half the runs in the following inning.

The Roadrunners added to their run total in the third with another pair, as Skyler Valentine and Ben Brookover scored on Markham’s bases-clearing triple.

The 49ers (19-29, 11-19 C-USA) avoided the shutout in the fourth with a Logan Sherer score. The designated hitter led off the inning with a stand-up double and scored on the following at-bat.

UTSA capped the scoring in the sixth when John Bormann and Trent Bowles came around to score for the second time of the day. Bormann crossed home plate on Tyler Straub’s sacrifice fly and Bowles scored on Matt Hilston’s two-out single.

Right-hander Aaron Burns (7-3) earned the win after going seven innings and allowing one run on six hits. He recorded five strikeouts.

Josh Maciejewski was charged with the loss in two innings of action. He allowed six runs on five hits and issued three walks to go aling with one strikeout.

UTSA now will head to Hattiesburg, Miss., for next week's Conference USA Tournament. The five-day event is scheduled to get underway on Wednesday, May 20.
