IRVING — Conference USA announced the 14 recipients of its Winter Spirit of Service Award on Wednesday and UTSA women’s basketball player Niaga Mitchell-Cole was honored for her community service efforts.
The junior helped lead the Roadrunners to a fourth-place finish in the league standings this past season and a first-round bye at the C-USA Tournament. She battled injuries this year, missing nine games, but came back to average 6.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game, while shooting 75.9 percent from the free throw line.
The San Antonio native is majoring in sport, event & tourism management and human resources management. Off the court, Mitchell-Cole has been involved with numerous youth initiatives, including the Children’s Museum Christmas event and Fashion Show for the Kids, has served as a speaker at local schools and as a Junior Achievement Teacher. Additionally, she has aided in the Color Me Rad 5K Run, the Walk for Cancer Survivors, Dream Runners, the Race for the Cure and Habitat for Humanity.
