AUSTIN — No. 9 Texas blanked No. 74 UTSA by a score of 4-0 on Tuesday evening at Caswell Tennis Center.
The Longhorns (17-3) captured the doubles point and clinched the contest by winning a trio of singles battles in a match that was stopped when the first team reached four points.
The Roadrunners fell to 13-8 on the year with just their fourth loss — all to nationally-ranked teams — in the last 15 matches.
The No. 19-ranked doubles team of Lloyd Glasspool and Soren Hess-Olesen handed UTSA’s top doubles duo of Tito Moreiras and Tomas Stillman its first loss of the year with a 6-2 decision. The Roadrunners’ tandem debuted earlier today at No. 50 in the ITA national rankings after winning their first six contests.
Nick Naumann and Michael Riechmann then secured the 1-0 lead with a 6-3 triumph over Jake Rother and Joel Rubio at No. 3.
In singles, the home side won on courts 2, 4 and 6. Naumann beat Joao Riquelme, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 4, Riechmann recorded a 6-3, 6-4 victory against Mark Gintingat the sixth position and No. 44 Glasspool downed Yannick Junger, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 2 to help the Longhorns improve to 20-0 all time against UTSA.
The Roadrunners will close out their regular season with a home match against Division III No. 7 Trinity (12-7) at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the UTSA Tennis Center.
