Robinson highlights strong day of action for Roadrunners at UTSA Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — Dionte Robinson raced to a program record in the 200 meters and the Roadrunners won a total of 14 events at Saturday's three-team UTSA Invitational, which took place at the Park West Athletics Complex.

Robinson raced the curve in a wind-aided time of 20.56, which broke four-time All-American Teddy Williams' seven-year-old record of 20.60, and the mark ranks as the nation's seventh-fastest clocking this spring. The true freshman from Baytown also ran the lead leg of UTSA's winning 400m relay that passed the baton in 40.54. Aaron LeJeune, Jurmarcus Shelvin and Christopher Hall joined Robinson in the victory.

Dusan Makevic was a double winner for the Roadrunners after crossing the finish line first in both the 1,500m (3:52.87) and 5k (14:57.81).

Other running event gold medalists for UTSA included Justin Gerbrecht, Mike Medrano (800m/1:54.39) and Saul Vazquez (3,000m steeplechase/9:57.06).

The Birds also won seven of the eight field events.

Jonas Gutierrez (long jump/22-11/6.98m), Victor Perez (PR 179-0/54.56m), Branden Perry (high jump/6-8/2.03m), Reid Perry (pole vault/15-1/4.60m), Adrian Riley (javelin/177-6/54.11m), Kaylon Sellers (triple jump/45-1 ½/13.75m) and Jared Tyler (discus/168-9/51.43m) all were victorious.

UTSA will return to action next Saturday, April 11, at the Texas Invitational.
