Roadrunners win three events at Saturday's J. Fred Duckett Twilight

HOUSTON — UTSA received three winning performances and three other top-three finishes to highlight its day of action at Saturday's J. Fred Ducket Twilight.

All-American Andrew Akens topped the 33-man shot put field with his measurement of 57-5 ½ (17.51m). It marked his first victory of the season in his specialty event and fourth top-three finish in five outings this spring.

Meanwhile, the foursome of Jurmarcus Shelvin, Dionte Robinson, Keyunta Hayes and Christopher Hall passed the baton in 3:08 to wn the 1,600-meter relay and that was the third-fastest clocking in program history.

Branden Perry was the Roadrunners' other gold medalist, as he cleared 6-9 (2.06m) to top the 15-man field of high jumpers.

UTSA's lone second-place finish came from Kaylon Sellers, who was runner-up in the triple jump after skipping to a mark of 46-2 ½ (14.08m)

The Roadrunners also received a pair of third-place performances.

Dusan Makevic clocked a 9:16.75 in the 3,000m steeplechase, while Gabe Vargas registered a career-best 54-2 ½ (16.52m) in the shot put.

UTSA will return to action next Saturday, May 2, at the Longhorns Invitational in Austin. The meet will be the team's final tune-up for this year's Conference USA Championships.
