Lackey leads Roadrunners on opening day of Conference USA Championship

TEXARKANA, Ark. — Garrison Lackey shot even par to lead UTSA on the opening day of the Conference USA Championship, which began on Sunday at Texarkana Country Club (6,869 yards/par 72)

Lackey is tied for 18th place after turning in a 72 that was highlighted by a pair of eagle-threes on the front nine and a birdie on another par five on the back. The senior from Weslaco was the only player in the 65-man field to register two eagles and he is one of nine players knotted at even par, just two shots out of the top 10.

Zander Lozano is one shot back of his teammate after firing a 73 and he is in a tie for 27th. The freshman from Boerne Champion High School recorded a trio of birdies in his opening round.

Bryce Alley and J.J. Lindsey both shot a 75 and are in a tie for 47th, while Brett Hogan rounds out the UTSA lineup in 64th after shooting a 79.

The Roadrunners carded a 295 and are in ninth place, two shots behind Louisiana Tech and five behind Old Dominion.

No. 30 UAB leads the 13-team field after posting a 12-under-par 276, followed by North Texas (278), Charlotte (283), Southern Miss (285), Middle Tennessee (287) and UTEP (287).

North Texas' Jason Roets is the day-one individual leader after turning in a 7-under 65.

The second round is slated for Monday with tee times off both sides beginning at 8 a.m.
