Roadrunners sail past Islanders on Tuesday night, 11-3

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA used a seven-run fourth inning to defeat Texas A&M-Corpus Christi by a score of 11-3 on Tuesday night at Roadrunner Field.

J.T. Gilmore led the Roadrunners (24-17) with a 3-for-4 performance that included one run and an RBI. Jesse Baker went 2-for-4 with two runs, a pair of doubles and an RBI.

Meanwhile, Logan Onda earned his second win against the Islanders this season, as he pitched four innings in relief. The right-hander allowed one run on four hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

After UTSA scored a run in the opening frame, the Islanders (19-17) evened the playing field with a run of their own in the third. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi then took a one-run lead on a solo home run from Justin Perales.

UTSA opened up the game in the fourth, as they batted around and then some. Twelve batters saw action in the inning, including Logan Kinder, who hit an in-the-park home run to score Gilmore for the first runs of the big inning.

A double, wild pitch and sacrifice fly scored three more runs before the visiting team managed to get the first out. Geonte Jackson and John Bormann scored the final runs of the inning on a single and another wild pitch from the Islanders pitching staff.

TAMUCC scored once more in the seventh, but it allowed three more UTSA runs with one coming in the fifth and another two in the eighth.

Kevin Landgrebe took the loss for the Islanders after allowing six runs on three hits and three walks in just a third of an inning.

UTSA will continue its five-game home stand this weekend when it welcomes Southern Miss (21-14-1, 9-8 C-USA) to the Alamo City.
