SAN ANTONIO — After a nine-game home stand at Roadrunner Field, UTSA will take a break and hit the road for a four-game road swing beginning Friday, April 3, in Miami with Florida International.
The Roadrunners are coming off a 5-4 victory of I-35 rival Texas State this past Tuesday. All four Bobcat runs came off of solo home runs as freshman Chance Kirby earned his second win of the year over 7.0 innings of work. The right-hander struck out a season-best eight batters and walked two.
UTSA held on as southpaw Cody Brannon went 2.0 innings for his second save. Brannon allowed one hit and one walk.
The 16-13 Roadrunners baseball team ties for fourth in the Conference USA standings with a 5-4 league record. UTSA leads the conference in doubles with 70, which is also best for fourth in the NCAA.
As a team, UTSA is third in C-USA batting a .290 clip and are in the top-three in multiple statistical categories, including home runs, hits, runs and RBIs.
FIU welcomes the Roadrunners with a 13-16 overall record and 5-4 league mark. The Panthers are coming off a 7-4 loss to Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday. FIU played the Wildcats a week prior and dropped a 3-2 extra-innings decision.
In its last league series, FIU won 2-of-3 against Marshall in Huntington, W.Va.
Brian Bortelli, who is batting a .301 clip, has a team-best 34 hits with 12 doubles, 24 RBIs, 18 runs and is slugging .451. Portellis is eighth nationally in doubles.
Getting the starting nod for FIU over the weekend will be Cody Crouse, Andres Nunez and Christopher Mourelle.
