UTSA to head to Houston for weekend matchup at No. 16 Rice

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will heads into the backstretch of its schedule this weekend when it heads to Houston for a three-game series at No. 16 Rice. The set is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at Reckling Park.

The Roadrunners (22-15, 9-6 C-USA) sit in fourth place in the Conference USA standings and they are coming off Tuesday's 10-8 victory at I-35 rival Texas State. The team combined for nine runs through three frames and had to hold off a late Bobcats' rally, but Cody Brannon kept Texas State off the board for the win.

UTSA now has won four of its last five outings with its only loss coming against Old Dominion in last Sunday's series finale. As a team, the Roadrunners are batting at a .285 clip, which ranks fourth in the league. UTSA also leads the conference in doubles (85) and home runs (29).

The Owls (24-15, 12-6 C-USA) are coming off an 11-0 victory against Houston to even the Silver Glove series. In Rice's dropped a pair of contests to UAB in its last conference series but won the the finale, 13-5. The Owls holds the circuit's second-highest batting average at .304 and their conference-leading 419 hits stand third nationally.

Rice has won 14 of the 16 all-time matchups between the two programs, including last year's 11-8 victory in the Conference USA Tournament Championship Game.
